The region of Velika Gorica abounds in clean rivers and is a paradise for fishermen and the waters are rich in fish due to good management. The Sava and its backwaters, as well as the Odra and the “Mrtva Odra“ are the most popular fishing destinations. In summer many anglers, as well as bathers, go to the Kupa. Beside rivers there are also private fish ponds, lakes, and former gravel pits. The Sava, Odra, and Kupa rivers, Lake Čiče and other gravel pits make 800 ha of useful area for sport fishing. In these waters you can find a lot of bass, chub, carp, grass carp, crucian carp, tench, pike, catfish, and zander.
The fishing area is divided into 4 fishing grounds: ponds and gravel pits, backwaters and holes by the Sava River, then the Odra with water sources, outlet canal, brooks Buna and Lekenik, and the Kupa River – left bank.
The biggest fishing society is ŠRU Odra, which has more than thousand fishermen registered. Every year it restocks its fishing ground with 8-10 tons of cyprinid fish.
